Em vez disso, ele apoiou a iniciativa francesa de uma "missão multinacional" para restaurar a liberdade de navegação no estreito. Uma videoconferência copresidida pela França e pelo Reino Unido está marcada para sexta-feira, com a participação de cerca de 40 países "não beligerantes". A iniciativa pretende ser "estritamente defensiva", segundo o presidente francês, Emmanuel Macron. Um ano antes das eleições presidenciais de 2027 e após 10 anos sob um presidente que prometeu reinventar a França após os fracassos dos partidos tradicionais, nada seria pior do que uma campanha monótona, desprovida de substância e ideias novas. O primeiro turno das eleições presidenciais francesas ocorrerá daqui a um ano. Essa perspectiva ainda é muito distante para permitir previsões precisas ou análises aprofundadas das intenções de voto. Nesta fase, sem nenhuma certeza sobre o cenário político na primavera de 2027, as pesquisas eleitorais presidenciais servem apenas para alimentar a competição entre os candidatos que disputam a indicação de seus partidos. Donald Trump called him a coward. But British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held firm, preferring diplomacy to military adventures. He made clear on Monday, April 13, that the United Kingdom would not support the US president's blockade of the Strate of Hormuz. Instead, he rallied France's initiative of a "multinational mission" to restore freedom of navigation in the strait. A video conference co-chaired by France and the UK is set to take place on Friday with around 40 "non-belligerent" countries. The initiative is intended to be "strictly defensive," according to French President Emmanuel Macron. Its implementation would only begin once the hostilities launched at the end of February by the US and Israel in Iran have ended. OPINION EDITORIAL French voters' desire for change must be heard by future presidential candidates One year ahead of the 2027 presidential election and after 10 years under a president who had promised to reinvent France following the failures of the old parties, nothing would be worse than a dull campaign devoid of substance and fresh ideas. The first round of the French presidential election will take place in a year. That prospect is still too distant to allow for firm predictions or in-depth analysis of voting intentions. At this stage, with no certainty about the political landscape in spring 2027, presidential polls only serve to fuel competition among those vying for their party's nomination.
