Investigators suspect that Iranian intelligence services were behind the plot. It was 3:20 am on Saturday, March 28, when plainclothes police officers, posted on surveillance duty, witnessed a strange scene outside the Paris headquarters of Bank of America, in the capital's 8th arrondissement. A teenager stopped in front of the building's entrance, pulled a transparent canister attached with brown tape to a large firework out of a shopping bag, and placed it in a recess by the pedestrian entrance. He rummaged through his pockets and then moved his hands as if trying to light a fuse. Across the street, an accomplice, just as young, anxiously scanned the surroundings and held up a smartphone to record. Just moments earlier, a handler identified by the alias "le Grand" ("the Big Kid") had shouted via video call: "Go, go, it's there, it's there! Drop the package!"
