UNDER PRESSURE Report on the Situation of Threatened Press Cartoonists Worldwide (2023–2025) |
|
The report on the situation of press cartoonists under threat around the world has been available online since 2 March 2026. It is the result of a joint effort by Cartooning for Peace, Cartoonists Rights and their partners: the Freedom Cartoonists, FORHUM, Columbia Global Freedom of Expression – University of Columbia, and Reporters Without Borders.
Against a backdrop of rising authoritarianism, the cases of threats against cartoonists, documented between 2023 and 2025 by Cartooning for Peace and Cartoonists Rights, cast a stark light on the state of democracy around the world.
This report also sets out a series of recommendations for advocacy purposes, in response in particular to the level of threats and censorship faced by press cartoonists on digital platforms.
The report is supported by UNESCO’s Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF) and the CFC. |

Alert Türkiye – LeMan (Doğan Pehlevan) |
|
A third hearing was held on 24 March 2026 in Istanbul as part of the proceedings brought against the cartoonist Doğan Pehlevan for “insulting the president”. He is accused of posting insulting comments about the Turkish president on social media platform X. Doğan Pehlevan denies being the owner of the account in question or the author of the posts associated with it.
Cartooning for Peace is closely monitoring the proceedings against the cartoonist Doğan Pehlevan. Türkiye is maintaining a climate of fear towards journalists by resorting to abusive legal proceedings, which constitutes an attack on press freedom. |
